BYETTA offers optional 1-step titration

  • BYETTA® (exenatide) injection can be given at any time within the 60 minutes before the morning and evening meals (or the 2 main meals of the day, at least 6 hours or more apart). Do not administer after a meal
  • When BYETTA is used in combination with insulin glargine, the dose of insulin should be evaluated. In patients with an increased risk of hypoglycemia, consider reducing the dose of insulin
  • BYETTA requires no additional blood glucose monitoring or dose adjustments around meals

    – Inform patients to monitor blood glucose as part of their diabetes treatment plan

  • The BYETTA Pen uses 29- to 31-gauge disposable pen needles
  • Never share a BYETTA Pen between patients: Pen-sharing poses a risk for transmission of blood-borne pathogens, even if the needle is changed
  • Do not mix BYETTA with insulin. Do not transfer BYETTA from the pen to a syringe or a vial
BYETTA dosing

Prior to first use, the BYETTA Pen should be stored in the original carton in a refrigerator at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). After the BYETTA Pen is first used, it can be stored at room temperature not to exceed 77°F (25°C). Do not freeze.


How to prescribe BYETTA

A separate prescription may be required for needles.

Based on clinical response, the dose of BYETTA 5 mcg BID can be increased to 10 mcg BID after 1 month of therapy.

Initiation with 5 mcg reduces the incidence and severity of gastrointestinal side effects.
